Conference Draws Marketing Students from around Michigan

Business students from around Michigan will visit the Ferris campus on Oct. 10 for the American Marketing Association (AMA) Michigan Regional Conference, featuring seven Michigan-based companies.

Registration is $20 and all students are welcome to attend. At least five other AMA chapters will attend. While the event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., students can attend as many or as few sessions as they would like.

Pure Michigan, Spectrum Health, Mackinac State Historic Parks, and Team Detroit are among the seven companies students can hear from during several hour-long sessions. In addition to the company presentations, students can compete in a marketing strategy or marketing sales competition to earn cash prizes from various sponsors.

Registered students are invited to attend a networking session 7 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 9 in the IRC. Students who attend this networking session will be able to sign up for interviews with the companies.

“This conference is a great out-of-classroom learning experience because students will learn about how the businesses are run and what to expect in the marketing world, “said Ryan McFarland, AMA Executive Vice President. “AMA hopes everyone takes this opportunity to get in front of businesses and learns a lot about their field of interest and can expand their network.”

Carman Plank, Public Relations major, attended the regional conference last year and had a phenomenal experience.

“This year it’s going to be even more exciting because everyone that is speaking is from companies in Michigan. It gives me the opportunity to learn about my options here at home,” said Plank.
