“Conversations on Inclusion” Event Encourages Equality in the Workplace

September 19, 2016

In order to promote diversity and inclusion, the College of Business, Office of Diversity and Inclusion, and the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning sponsored the first “Conversations on Inclusion” event that focused on equality in the workplace. The event was held on September 14th at the University Center on the Big Rapids Campus.

Attendees had the opportunity to listen to corporate executives from a variety of industries share their experiences and perceptions of inclusion in the professional work environment. Each speaker also responded to questions from participants regarding personal interests or concerns surrounding the topic of inclusion. Guest speakers included Matthew T. Chappelle (Christman Company), Carlos Estrada (AIGA), Kimberly Lindsey-Feagin (Bosch), and Ana L. Ramirez-Saenz (La Fuente Consulting LLC).  Over 250 students, administrators, faculty, and other guests heard first-hand how equality issues have evolved from the past to the present.

Conversations on Inclusion was organized by the Committee on Inclusion in the College of Business. Dr. Catherine S. Browers, a member of the committee, said, “The enthusiastic response we have received has been overwhelming, and we are grateful to our speakers and guests for making this a great event.  The committee is already sharing ideas for 2017.”
