College of Business houses Michigan’s DECA District II Conference

On Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016, Ferris State University welcomed over 650 high school students from Western and Northern Michigan to compete in the DECA District II Conference. The conference was held in the College of Business, Interdisciplinary Resource Center (IRC) and Williams Auditorium.

Michigan’s DECA organization is the largest organization for students who plan to succeed in the marketing, finance, hospitality, management and entrepreneurial fields. Student members gain leadership skills to succeed in these areas of the workforce.

Student members compete in a variety of career areas that help students develop their professional, inter-personal, and communication skills. Students can compete in numerous forms, including: multiple-choice tests, role playing situations, research projects, business plans, interviews and teamwork skills.

The goal of District Conferences is to test students on their business knowledge and professionalism, promote healthy competition, and network with other students from the surrounding areas.

District II schools that participated in the one day conference include: Boyne City High School, Byron Center High School, Caledonia High School, Careerline Technical Center, East Kentwood High School, Forest Hills Central High School, Forest Hills Eastern High School, Forest Hills Northern High School, Fruitport High School, Grand Haven High School, Grandville High School, Greenville High School, Innovation Center High School, Jenison High School, Kent Career Technical Center, Montague High School, Petoskey High School and West Ottawa High School.
