AMA Recognizes Marketing Prof as Outstanding Volunteer

May 14, 2015

Dr. Laura Dix, professor of Marketing, was recognized by the American Marketing Association (AMA) as an outstanding volunteer; she was featured on their website during May. Since 2006, she has passionately served as the faculty advisor of the Ferris collegiate chapter of AMA, which was awarded Silver Chapter of the Year for their 2014-2015 annual report and chapter plan.

“I love working with students as an advisor to AMA Ferris,” Dix says. “I have seen the organization grow from four students in 2004 to over 90 students this past year. The professionalism of AMA students is AMAzing.”

Beyond her service to the local chapter, Dix has also participated in the AMA Collegiate Chapters Council for the past three years and has been Conference Co-Chair of the AMA International Collegiate Conference for the past two years. She aided in planning and organizing the International Collegiate Conference, an event geared to develop the skills of collegiate members and celebrate their accomplishments. This year, 25 AMA Ferris students traveled to New Orleans for this conference and competed in several competitions.

Although she admits that making this event possible was “truly a challenge,” Dix was more than ready for the responsibility. “As my students will tell you, I love a challenge,” she said.“This year we set record attendance at the conference with numbers of members and number of collegiate chapters represented.”

Dix has dedicated herself to AMA at a national level because she values making a difference in the professional lives of college students and future business professionals. In addition to volunteering with AMA, she serves the local community by volunteering with CROP Hunger Walk and Feeding America food trucks.
