Professional activities and areas of interest

Hira Herrington is the chair of the Accounting, Finance, and Information Systems Department and an associate professor of computer information systems. He received his PhD in Computer Information Systems from Nova Southeastern University and has 20+ years of commercial software development experience. He teaches a range of courses in computer programming, systems analysis, and web development.

His most recent research focuses on virtual reality for education. He headed a team that received a grant from the Ferris Foundation, leading to the creation of a VR lab, VR course development, VR training, and the development of best practices in VR education. In addition, he led a team that received a Ferris Foundation grant to create a video entitled “How to Keep Kids Safe on the Internet,” with the collaboration of students and faculty from several disciplines. The video is available to view on You Tube.

Dr. Herrington received the College of Business Systma Award for Faculty Excellence, the College of Business award for Outstanding Advising and Service to Students, and the Academic Service Learning Faculty Excellence Award in 2018.
