Professional activities and areas of interest
Tim Powers worked in the graphics arts industry for 30 years. He received several awards from the AAF, including a national gold Addy Award for his design of the Merrell Footwear tradeshow exhibit, and his graphic work has appeared in HOW magazine and Print Magazine.
Tim is a member of the AIGA and has worked locally with the student chapters of this organization. He maintains a freelance design practice as well as a sculptural studio practice in addition to his work as an educator.
Tim’s object making practice utilizes contemporary mediums such as plastic and focuses on relationship concepts of the personal and material. His work concentrates on both the perceptual and metaphoric qualities of the materials he engages. His drawings often compliment the explorations of his object making.
His work has been shown at The Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University, Ferris State University, Kendall College of Art and Design, Muskegon Art Museum, UICA/Grand Rapids, Whitdel Arts/Detroit, The Grand Rapids Art Museum and The College for Creative Studies/Detroit.
