Ferris Students Attend Annual Michigan Society for Healthcare Planning and Marketing Conference

April 24, 2019

Ferris Healthcare Marketing students attended the annual Michigan Society for Healthcare Planning and Marketing conference in Lansing on April 11, 2019. During the conference students experienced the hospital setting in the nonprofit sector and learned how it interacts with for-profit suppliers.

“I believe people are drawn to this industry in large part as an expression of their concern for people and their community,” said Ferris State University professor Dr. Clay S. Dedeaux. “There is a benevolence which guides our behaviors and decisions; however, our business and marketing acumen are as sharp as those in the for-profit sector.”

The conference included advice from Hailey Yatros, a sought-after Inspirational Speaker, millennial life coach, and author of the books “The Millennial Makeover,” and “Back to the Source: Cultivating Inner Peace in a Technology-Driven World.”

Students who want to learn more about Healthcare Marketing can become members of the Michigan Society for Healthcare Planning and Marketing. Student members have access to a new mentorship program that pairs a student with a local marketing professional for the coming year. Mentors provide an inside look at the day-to-day role of a healthcare professional, resume and writing tips, career advice on job searches, internships, and interviewing, and connections with other professionals in the industry based on the student’s personal interests.

Student membership also includes a $50 registration rate for a one-year membership, an opportunity to win a $500 scholarship, access to the MSHPM job and internship board, network opportunities with various health systems, and hear from industry leaders in current topics.

The College of Business at Ferris State University provides career-oriented education, responding for over 100 years to the changing needs of the business world. The curriculum prepares graduates to deal with real issues as members and leaders of tomorrow’s workforce. Their Healthcare Marketing program equips students to market within the healthcare industry and across its supply chain, which includes hospitals and hospital systems, physicians and their practices, specialized clinics, social service providers, behavior-change specialists, and manufacturers of pharmaceuticals, medical devices and medical furniture.
