PGM Alum Seeks Student Interns

July 11, 2013

Ryan Szydlowski, an alumnus of the PGA Professional Golf Management (PGM) Program, returned from Palm Desert, California, to seek PGM students for upcoming internships.

Szydlowski, a native of Alpena, Michigan, graduated from Ferris in December of 2009. After completing an internship with Desert Willow Golf Resort in Palm Desert, Szydlowski was offered a full-time position at the resort. He is currently the Head Golf Professional there.

Just three years after graduation, Szydlowski has a strong start on his career. As Head Golf Professional, he’s responsible for setting up lessons, hiring/firing, facility operations, planning and setting up golf outings and events, and coordinating those events with food and beverage on site.

Szydlowski says he hires twice as many Ferris graduates as any other university offering PGA Professional Golf Management programs (there are 20 in the United States). With 16 months of internships under their belts, PGM students are experienced professionals; PGA training built into the curriculum leads to membership upon graduation.

The program also recently purchased TrackMan golf radar technology, which tracks a golfer’s swing and analyzes ball flight patterns to enhance a golfers’ consistency on the course. Szydlowski suggests knowledge of this technology gives Ferris students a further edge in the industry, as the technology is new and very dominant in the golf world.
