Featured Internship: Jodie Yuncker
Location of internship, brief job description, and any special recognition:
While interning at Fontanel I worked with the sales and marketing team, front and back of the house at Café Fontanella, server at the concerts at Carl Black Chevy Woods Amphitheater and all other private events held at the Mansion, Café, and The Inn- including but not limited to weddings, private VIP parties, and networking events, front desk at the 6-suite bed & breakfast Inn, and also helped the sales team by doing sales blitz’s, creating news letters to send out to potential clients, and constructing BEOs and invoices. During my internship I was recognized in The Pulse as one of Fontanels very first interns! This newsletter is features the accomplishments and goals Fontanel has achieved this past year and what their goals are for this upcoming year. I also earned the certificate of being a hotel SalesPro Professional; which is the sales team’s computer system they use to track all potential clients, current clients, and past clients. This system can be assessed by anyone on property who has the correct credentials; it allows them to view current and upcoming events and what the BEO looks like. Lastly, I earned the state of Tennessee Alcohol Serving Permit they call an ABC Permit; which is similar to the TIPS Alcohol Permit.
How you related this internship to one of the FSU core values:
I related this internship to Ferris State’s Core Value of learning and opportunity. The first core value of learning prepared me to enter my internship already having the theory and practice of executing an event from beginning to end. One of the big steps that helped me to do know this execution is from being the Data & Communications Manager for Gala 2016. The second core value of opportunity, allowed me to develop my career skills and knowledge by giving me the opportunity to intern at Fontanel in the numerous departments they have on property. This core value will help me in my last internship this summer because I can help the different departments out and make improvements that will hopefully lead to better efficiency, success, and advancement in my career.

I am President of NACE (National Association for Catering & Events) and am involved in PCMA (Professional Convention Management Association)
My future plans are to move down to St. Petersburg, Florida and work for an event planning company to plan corporate, social events, DMC (Destination Management), and Non-Profit events. From weddings to gala’s to fulfilling the client’s needs of what they want to result from their non-profit event I want to be part of a team that plans exquisite events that outstand any other event company.
Advice for other students:
My advice to students going into the Hospitality Industry is to get involved in as many activities as possible within the Hospitality umbrella. This will help narrow down what you want your future career goals to be. You might think you know what you want your career to entail but it could very well change from your first internship experience and lead to a different path. Do your research on of all the different opportunities out there because what you might think you’ll love could very well switch once you get hands-on with it in your learning or internship. Lastly, try different areas within the hospitality industry like events, housekeeping, food & beverage, guest relations, etc. because who knows you might think you want to go into one but then try another career path out and fall in love with it!
